Teddy Meets Mashimaro

My friend had been planning for a birthday party for her 3 year old daughter some months ago. Due to unforeseen circumstances and some pressing issues, the birthday plan and decision for birthday cake was put on hold till the very last minute.

During the planning stage, she wanted a 3D upright sitting bear. As the bear has to travel approximately 20km to get to the birthday girl, I told her that it may not be such a good idea. That was when she opt for a 2D laying down bear cake. Even this did not materialise, as at the very last minute she decided to keep the celebration to within her immediate family only. Although the size of cake has change but the idea of a bear cake still remains. BEAR-BEAR is her daughter's favourite and how can I break a little girl's heart by suggesting something else.

Eventually she decided on a small cake with a bear sitting on it. I made the bear using store bought fondant. Based on the original plan, I was supposed to make only 1 bear. But I truly and thoroughly enjoyed it so much that I ended up making 2 bears and a rabbit.

My daughter, Sydney thinks that I have a deprived childhood that's why I am enjoying this so much. To some extend I do agree with her since there were no such thing as Play Doh during my growing up years. The only Play Doh I could remember is the 'tang yuen' that my mother allowed us to roll into small ball for the Winter Solstice Celebration on 22 Dec of each year.

Here's where bear meets Mashimaro rabbit.

Sydney said my rabbit looks like Mashimaro rabbit *grin*. The secret in getting a Mashimaro is.........to make a mistake of having the head a little too big so that it slide down a little while drying out.....ha..ha..ha.

And.......here's presenting the cake.
